Not pulling the same

Okay heres the problem. When I mash the pedal to the floor it pulls hard and after about one second boost goes down to 25 and it seems sluggish. It is definatley a fuel delivery issue but none of my pump settings have changed. Could this be a bad fuel filter? before it used to hold at about 34 all the way through the gear now it peaks at 32 and goes down. Give me some suggestions on what could be wrong. Oh and it has been happening gradually over about a month.

Sounds like a filter and/or a lift pump.

The fuel filter. Here is my reasoning.

As the fuel filter gets clogged, it is harder to get the fuel through. So the filtered part gets full as it idles but when you mash it, it sucks it quicker than it can filter. So the pump doesn't get the fuel it is asking for. Compeash?

It could also be some trash in the fuel line, somewhere, that sort of floats around at times, and gets sucked over an opening, thus cutting down fuel supply.

Also, if your rubber fuel lines are getting some age on them, one could be sucking itself together, under high demand.

If you have a piston-pump, first place to look is at the screen on the inlet side.

My truck, recently, shut down completely, due to a wad of gook sucking across that screen.

That is how I learned there was a screen in there.

Thanks guys I knew it was a fuel issue. I will try and change the filter and see if that fixes it. Is there a good kind to get or are all of them about the same?

Just put in the new filter and what a difference pulls hard all the way through the gear. Thanks.

Yeppers,
I just replaced mine last week. I stopped on the way to work and when I came out I had to crank it a bit to get it running. I stopped and bought a filter and changed it in the parking lot at work, after the bosses went home of course. I noticed crappy fuel mileage before changing it too although I can't see the connection.
