Noise difference without tappet cover pad

Trying to decide if I should order a new rattle pad. I haven't had the insulation on my hood for years (I lose a lot of belts which weed whack the pad) so I am used to noise, but is it noticeably louder without the pad?

I left mine off on the 1991.0 and can't tell any difference. Not sure how those tappets moving up and down even make much noise, it isn't like they are dislodging from the pushrods and clinking back together.

I didn't notice any different when I removed the pad off my engine.
