New stocker, Aftermarket upgrade, or Electric Upgrade ?
 

Just trying to get the feel for the majority here.

Do you, when your fan blade starts to...or goes bad....

A. Replace with OE
B. Replace with a better quality steel / FG blade
c. Replace with Electric
d. Other


If you could state reasons, and / places you purchased it would be helpful to others trying to make the decision on how to ....

OE replacement. Electric is not enough flow, there is not an aftermarket fan better than OEM.

Depends on if you are towing.

I towed around 10k and it got warm. However, I had a head gasket issue. Also, I need to clean it out, both inside and out.

This truck also nets me more average MPG than my last 2.

If I were to do this over again, I would get a 2nd Gen radiator and a Taurus SHO fan. IIRC, flows something like 3200cfm. Requires a 70amp relay for the high setting.

I don't tow so electric for me. I got one from a SSR, no idea what it flows but it cools my pile in Arizona heat with good a/c. My other 1st gens I tow with have the stock units. But I check them often for cracks, I've replaced 2 blades over the years due to cracks.

I replaced the fan and clutch with 2nd gen parts in my '93. The fan is 10x quieter and it worked great in the arizona heat I towed in this week. Everything bolted in place with no modification. I rounded up the fan from a junkyard and the clutch from a dodge place online. The clutch was listed as a more aggressive snow plow clutch. I have around $150 in the set up.

This sounds most promising..

Did you get your stuff from a 12V or a gasser ? Seems that it would be easier to find the 2nd gen parts than our truck parts. Other than the dealer, I don't even know where to find an OE fan. Will have to do some searching on this one.

I got the parts for a '96 cummmins. I think 94-02 are all the same.

1990-1998 are all the same according to the supplier on Ebay that is an actual chrysler dealership.

1 single Lincoln Mark VIII/Ford Taurus 3.8L V6. They have dual fan setups. Gloves were dropped above and 5-6" away from the coolers.

Would a small electric fan mounted say, to the back side of a grill guard, pushing a little air through to the fan clutch, help keep things cooler in traffic and in town?

^I was wondering the same thing. Is there a small pusher fan that could be mounted behind the grille?

Not on my truck...

My intercooled 92's grille has just about enough room to fit a 8 gauge wire through (including plug) for my snow plow. Smaller or larger (but not much) depending on where you are in relationship to the grille.

The A/C unit condenser eliminates the possibility on mine.



Maybe NON IC and NON A/C would work.

I have a friend with an intercooled '91 that has a small fan on the front. Its really really thin and about 12" in diameter. I'll try to get pictures and more info next time I see him.
