The VB they sent is just a stocker, but no, we haven't tried it yet. I had the Suncoast VB for nearly 4 months sitting in my closet, maybe that has something to do with these gremlins? I dunno.

No change. Still sticks in 2nd under hard throttle. Fun to drive otherwise.

Would having too much transmission fluid cause this kind of problem?

Naw it still sticks in 2nd if I drive it at 3/4 throttle to WOT. If accelerating briskly or leisurely it shifts fine. So, I wait until it shifts into third if I really want to flog it.

I've been thinking about buying a PATC VB and getting rid of the Suncoast, but the problem doesn't bother me enough to plunk down the money right now.

I love passing vehicles on the highway, it really can move now.

Would you still consider buying a complete transmission from them?
Mine is on the way out also

Thanks,

Eric

Yeah I'd still do it. Just make sure you buy all their stuff. Or at least their Valve Body. I think the problem may be the SunCoast VB is not jivin' with the transmission.

I do think the problem is slowly going away as the miles accumulate.

I just went to Boulder, CO to pick up a car yesterday. Put 900 miles on it in 18 hours and it did awesome.

OK,

The problem still persists. I think it is getting worse though. Meaning... I have to give less throttle for the problem to occur than in the past.

I am seriously considering buying the PATC VB to put in. I do not know transmissions well so this question might seem kind of dumb.

Do I have to drop the whole transmission to swap out a Valve Body?

Thanks

I'm pretty sure you just have to drop the trans pan to remove the VB. I don't think you have to take the trans out for that...

yea you just have to drop the pan to pull the whole valve body down, be careful though, hold the valve body perfectly flat on removal/install or you'll lose all the little *****.

On a 727, 518, 618, you dont have to hold the VB flat nothing is going to fall out. all the check ***** are inside the VB . Ken

The_Head, you have a stock PATC VB sitting there? Try it, if you want to isolate the issue. You could send me the suncoast VB and I can check it out for you, if you want.
If does sound like the throttle valve could be sticking.

Thanks for the offer Fred, I will keep your offer in mind. The truck does not do this nearly as bad when I am towing my camper. I do not know why.

PATC did send me a stock VB. It is not a performance VB though. Could I just run the stocker? What are the cons of doing this?

Could too much fluid cause this? I am pretty sure I am high. I checked the dip stick yesterday and the fluid had a bunch of tiny bubbles in it.

I accidentally put too much trans fluid in mine and have had no ill effects. It reads quite a bit too high but when I filled it I put 4 qts in IIRC and it was still reading low so I just dumped 1 more in and now it reads way too high. I was lazy and just left it figuring if it is too high it's not really that much too high, somewhere under a qt. It's been fine ever since fwiw. I's been about a year and somewhere around 20k miles.

Maybe it would depend on how overfilled it is, I don't know.

just check it warmed up on flat ground and in neutral. if over the full mark by more than 1/2 inch, drain a quart out.
The_Head, for the purpose of identifying your issue, run the stock one. if it makes you feel better, we can raise the pressure some, I can show you how, really easy.
