I'm set on getting an S300, I haven't heard anything bad about them. I'm just wondering if my EGT's will be manageable.

I can get to hot empty. With the timing up it takes a little longer to get there. That being said I do not believe advancing the timing makes the pistions cooler. The egt's may be lower but I think the pistions are still hot. I can still hit 1400 on a 10 to 15 second run up a long hill in high gear. Before advancing the timing I could get 1500.

The comp wheel on a 40 is ( i think ) 60mm and my S300 is 57 but it is a newer design. The cfm's are 870 which is more then a hx40. I talked directly to borge warner ( tech department ) and he said I could run up to 45 pounds boost with no problems. At my 297 hp I am at 35 pounds tops with the gate unhooked. Mine does not have the adjustable wastegate as it came directly from borge warner not BD. BD and borge warner built this thing together in a joint effort as an upgrade from the hx 35's and hx 40's. Also the shafts in the s300 are better and do not break as easy. I am a barker so I did not want a 40. Also the 57 model is made for towing where the bigger ones do not recomend towing. I also went from a baby H1C to this so I saw a bigger difference then you will with the later and bigger H1C. My comp wheel was 50 mm with the small 3 inch inlet. Just beware I am a dummy and not to be confused with someone that has a clue.

It sems like you really did your homework on the turbos, so your saying the S300 is the same unit Bd sells as there special and Suber B.. Reason I ask is I can get pretty good deals on BD stuff... And I am in need of a bigger turbo when spring rolls around... Mine is chattering real bad and will be holding me back real soon!!

Not pooping on hx 40's I know alot of people that love them. I just know I would have it barked in half real quik. I am good for going from 35 psi to 0 all the time. People give me plenty of looks in town when the turbo gets a little back wash.

with that info i would go with the 62/71/14 or 12
if he can hit 1400 on an injector that is smaller than the 370s i think you would need the bigger turbo

That's what I was afraid of...

Oh well, better to spend the money once I guess.

Thank you, Alwaysworking.

I did all my home work after I bought it. I called the cummins speed shop where a good and super smart friend works. ( we are from the same small town ). I asked him what I needed for a good ( not best ) upgrade. He sold me the S300G. He makes basically all the high roller pullers and drag cummins in the state. I then did alot of leg work finding out just exactly what I had. I called BD and got I DON"T KNOW from every tech guy there. I finally called Borge Warner directly and left a message for them to call me back. I could not believe when the next day a tech guru called me back. I gave him the part numbers and he said " yup I know exactly what you have " Mine is the following ( I took notes while I was on the phone ) factory waste gated for 30 psi, compressor is 2.248 in or 57mm, the exaust is 2.54 in or 64 mm, the housing is .80ar or 14.77cm. The unit is rated for 350 to 400 horsepower. the MAP is 60 pounds per minute, the cfm's are 870. He said he has seen many test at 45 psi with no troubles. He also stated it was a replacment upgrade for the hx40. He is the one that told me it was the same as the BD super B. I think they put a adjustable gate on there's.

That site doesn't show that they have any turbo's for our trucks. I checked the 2nd gen 12v section as well. I emailed them, so I guess we will see.
