New to diesels: boost vs egt

I'm fairly new to diesels and am a bit confused on what I read on boost and EGT. It seems the higher the boost, the more air and fuel you are pushing so the higher the EGT should be, correct? If that is so, why the need for both boost and egt gauges.
The need to control the EGT is obvious, but can someone explain a bit on the boost to me. thanks.

Boost is for entertainment to a point, and for diagnosis. Its need when you start edging on 40psi, cause thats around the point of HG limit on these trucks. It helps though for telling what each mod does for ya performance wise, and for keeping an eye out for leaks.
