maxspool cam update

well guys i just thought i should update my cam install i wish i had more pics but its raining over here and i had to beat the rain. all in all it only takes a couple of hours and some engine mount loosening to get the cam in and out. super easy. i did the wood dowel etc... tapered the ends shoved them inthe tappet heads etc.... went smooth advanced the timing one tooth and it pretty hard to get egt over 800 and cool down is almost instant. in terms of spool super sweet also instant, using a 35/40 14 hybrid, waiting on some sticks. lost a little boost about 4lbs but power goes all the way to gov.. tack awaiting install. i also put in 60lb valve springs so i could pull some higher boost and rpm. twins would go really good with these cams and thats were im at, but yes very sweet cam and well worth the money. garrett shields, puredieselpower.com 4&#.00

Good to hear!
Is that a maxspool 2 or 2.5?
Think it gained any power?
When did it start spooling before?
If you advanced the timing more from where it was, boost will be down.
If it is the same and you lost 4 psi with just the cam without losing power, that is even better!

the maxspool 2 i have the 2.5 in my 24v, they are not recomended for tow or daily driving, rpm gain is not logical, im pretty sure there is a little more power i can feel it com on way sooner, and smook is completely gone, i would have to assume im shifting at 3k or above probably above, man i was just checking out he sig glhs holly edit you got some time invested in your truck. im putting in a piston pump once i get it in the mail, and the 14mm pump probably next week, along with ddp injectors.

Make sure and upgrade to the latest, greatest piston pump findings here in the forums. Some discussion the last 2 weeks about them.
I just got a bad cylinder head for some research and never noticed how small the opening on the fuel filter base is cast into these.

Question about the cam.
I thought stock ones are susceptible to breakage past 4200 rpm?
Is that true?
That's about the only thing I have against the regrind types.
When I advance the timing past 2.20 mm or more, it feels like it would rev to 4500.

you know i read a hole huge post on that and the way i understood it was they are super rare to break it happened on like a p7100 drag truck. it when you fuel hard and then let of real quick and everything is spinning super high rpms then comes to a halt the cam gear walks and twists the camshaft causing the cummins super hard cam to break, do i think you or me would break one, probably never but i like this cam better than some new ugl blank cams out there, ive had both and i also like to talk to the guy that is making the cam, and i know the specs, and who grinds them.

If only happening to P-pumps, I can believe that.

I will post you my results and opinion in just a few days(still waiting for IP). Last I talked to Brandon (global warmer) he had done oil analysis a few times and found no trace of metal or such and truck was performing well. Hopefully he will chime in.

The CR cam does not have a fuel pump lobe does it? So I guess it will not work.
