Manual transmission identification help needed...
I got a question for the nv4500 swap experts.
Hello, I bought a used transmission today and I need some info on it. I thought it was a nv4500 but I got to looking at the case and it has a NP emblem on it. On the pto cover I can see what looks like 4500 on the identification tag but not for sure yet.
Would a NV4500 have NP cast onto the housing and top cover or is this a different transmission like a np435 or something? Thanks

Its out of a 95 dodge 3500 2wd C/C. (gasser
)
The sticker basicaly says if you dont refill the transmission with castrol xxxxxx after removing the cover or installing a pto it will ruin the transmission.
I can get a pic though.

You can tell it's from a Dodge gasser by the cutout in the bell housing, where the crankshaft position sensor goes in. That means it was bolted up behind either a 360 V8, or an 8.0L V10. What you need to determine is if a V8 version would be a lighter version of the NV4500 or not. I know there were lighter versions out there; for example the Chev 6.5 diesel had an NV4500 but with a smaller input shaft and a different housing. No idea which one Dodge would've used on the V8s.

Believe all Dodges used the Dodge Housing, though at least the Input and Output shafts are different between gas and Diesel. Chevy used a different bolt pattern on the front of the housing through 1995, in 1996 they started using the same cases the Dodges did.
