Low idle when hot

Since the warm weather is back the low idle problems are back too. After a run on the freeway, when I come to a stop in gear (auto) the RPMs will drop to 500 or lower causing the engine to shake and sometimes the oil idiot light to come on. At a stop I have to put it in neutral or 2 foot it (briefly). Low speed parking requires 2 footing it. This happens even with a cold idle RPM of 850. Got any ideas on how to fix this? Oh, this is without using AC.
Thanks

I would try adjusting the idle up a bit, but its my understanding that it may be a worn pump... pump head to be exact...Ive got a similar problem. Im seriously looking at one of those Roken-tec(?) 14mm pump heads to slap on there.

Yea, I too am considering a 14mm head, but not sure where to get one. I do see personal advertisement for them on occasion, but is there someone who builds them regular? Roken-tec, what dat is? Thanks, Ken.

So, how do I know for sure if I need a new pump head at $270? Also, the truck is stock and will only get mild mods - have to keep fuel mileage reasonable.
Thanks

When bumping the idle up doesn't work, what next?
Thanks

I used to have that problem until I turned up the fuel screw and idle.

try a oil pressure sending unit, and next is a rebuilt pump.

New pump or live with it until it starts dying when hot - then new pump.

Wonderful! :( I've already lived with it for awhile - every summer! When i've saved enough money to get a new one, what mods should I do or have done to it? Is there any way for a shade tree meckanik to rebuild it?

you should be able to get a rebuilt one for $500. Mine does the same low idle thing when its hot. I may just live with it till i save enough for the $1500 BD pump.

That will be a waste of 1500 bucks![laugh] Im willing to bet they just screw the power screw in and add a BD fuel pin then charge you out the wazoo for it. Plus the "cheapest" one they have is 2300[laugh]

i think they are actualy a 14mm head unit with a higher lift plunger. about $700 to upgrade a stock pump to those parts. I guess I could go with a good rebuilt pump or new pump and upgrade. I should have kept the other marine VE I had that was rated at 230hp. It probibly already had those parts. lol

My truck is getting harder to start when its hot... is there a good online source for the 12mm heads? I just talked to RokenTech and am considering their 14mm... any opinions?

Where's a good place to get a pump? No way for a DIYer repair? What mods should be done when it's time? Thanks
