Lots of Blue Smoke

1993 with original 12V.
235,000 miles
AFE air filter
Straight thru 4" exhaust
Upgraded injectors to "Dynomite" stage 1-14,000 miles ago

I drove it 150 miles to the coast pulling a 24 foot travel trailer. The next day drove it 30 miles empty and while idling in town there was a large quantity of blue smoke. Shut it down for a few minutes, but on restart, it was still smoking. Drove it for a block and stopped at a shop for 5 minutes. To get it started, it cranked over 5-6 times; it usually starts on the first crank of the starter. Again, lots more blue smoke. Drove it about 6 miles and the smoke sort of cleared up.

Had it towed home the 150 miles for a small fee to the shop who had installed the air filter, exhaust and injectors. Paid them for an hour of diagnosis with no results.

I changed the fuel filter and drove it out to another shop with more smoke than normal. He fixed an air leak at the lift pump and dropped the fuel tank to clean the screen; it was gunked up after 22 years of use. Seemed to be better for 4 days, but then it would not shut down. I turned the key on and off and then it shut down. I replaced the FSS last Saturday.

Started it up this morning and it was running rough, about 1/2 speed for about 5 seconds and then came up to speed. Drove it to work and back. Headed out to get more fuel this evening and the large quantity of blue smoke returned again for several minutes. Turned around and came back home.

Sometimes on starting in the morning it will run a little rough until I give it some throttle. In the past, it would fire right off and run smooth. Something is wrong; just need to know what.

I have dumped over $800 into it and it's still not fixed.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Lyle

If you walk up to a running machine, and change something......

And now it does not run...............

In the order of probability:

1. The most likely fault is what you did.

2. The other option is that what you did stressed the weak link.

3. The third option is something co-incidental occurred. (bad tank of fuel for instance)

The scary part is that blue smoke is usually lubricant. Sometimes it's caused by cylinder wash or oil dilution from too much fuel or a bad injector. You might have wound up the turbo past what it was used to and taken out a shaft seal. Check the piping for oil.

(edit) I missed that you have 14,000 good miles on the injectors. If you did something else, it's still #1. Injectors would be #3 in the list. After market injectors sometimes do stupid things like stick wide open.
