K&n versus BHAF

Took the K&N filter out today to clean it and re oil today, it's a whole lot bigger than I expected. Is anyone using the k&n filter with the Old smokey mount? Or has any one gone to the Old Smokey from the K&n filter. Just looking for some pros and cons. Thanks

I just went to the Old smokey with BHAF from a K&N with an opened up air box.

EGT's went down a little and the turbo noise is up. And the air going into the engine is much cleaner.

Hum I know this has been said in chat on many occasions, so i'll say it here. The only way to make a filter flow better is to make bigger holes. Thats k&n's big secret, but bigger holes means more dirt so they use an oil solution so that dirt sticks to it. Now in a car with a caburator this is a slick idea, but on a turbo driven engine this aint real brite. At higher rpm's the turbo pulls the oil out of the k&n then you just have big holes for more dirt to pass through.

Now if you think this just might not be true if you run a k&n, pull intake hose off and stick a cloth down it, all that dirts on your rag is only a fraction of what your baby;s engine just ate. Performance is a delicate balance, one can give up a bit of milage to go a lot faster, but when it comes to dirt, there no real choice, stop the dirt at all costs.

PS the BHAF works better anyway

Thanks loch, I'm tired of getting beaten up for saying that.

Oiled cotton filters do have their place. Trucks with twins or a big single need more air than the BHAF can supply, so your choice becomes melt the motor or accept a little dust.
