IP pouring fuel
IP pouring fuel
Just my luck.
I just took a 500 mi. road trip today, about 100 mi. from home I started smelling fuel. I pulled into a rest area and fuel was pouring everywhere underneath the truck, the drivers side of the truck was covered. I popped the hood and the supply line was leaking, I snugged it up and it stopped leaking. It was still leaking from the back of the pump, I managed to make it home.
Now I hope it's only a high pressure line, wishful thinking. I haven't pulled it in the garage yet, but fuel is pouring down the bracket. I have a feeling I will be pulling the IP to fix this. Just a bad day, I'm suppose to leave for Utah this Friday.

mine had a horrible leak from the washers on the fuel line banjo fitting and it was killing my mileage, i pulled it apart yesterday and cleaned them and now no leak, ive still got my "drip" though from some mysterious place on the back of the pump. i know how ya feel on the trip thing also, i got to leave for florida sunday.
Well got everything apart and back together fine. It is definetly alittle tricky but not to back if you pay attention. I think I'll take it down to the pump shop tomorrow and have them throw it on the flow bench before it goes back on the truck.
Thanks for the link Dave

driving the great white gas guzzling beast to work? just make sure you keep it timed right when you put it back together or your bound for all kinds of problems. what exactly was wrong with it?
The problem is one of the delivery valve fitting is cracked. I actually tore the pump off and disassembled most of it and couldn't find anything. I reinstalled the pump and got it fired up. It still leaked, I still couldn't see exactly where it was coming from.
I talked with Josh (JAyers) and he had an spare pump I tried, the pump ran fine but still leaked. I had to change the delivery valve fittings because the pump he had different size lines. I removed everything around the back of the pump and almost had to stand on my head to see clearly where the fuel was coming. So now the search is on for another part.
This pumps are really pretty simple work on. I expected them to be more difficult, I did miss a small part in the bottom that I was able to get to from the topside. I do have a good understanding of what makes these jewels tick now.
So much for leaving for Utah tonight
