HX40 Vs. Upgraded H1C
I have decided to drop some money into a turbo, inter-cooler, and exhaust system for my truck. For turbo's, I either want to upgrade my H1C with a 60 mm compressor and 16 cm exhaust or find an HX40 with 16 cm exhaust.
Which is better? Which one would give me lower EGT's? Which one would spool faster? I would like to decide which I am going to use so I know which down pipe to get. Also, what year Ford inter-coolers work the best? And where do I buy boots? |

You want to get the earlier 99-01? intercooler with the aluminum tanks. The plastic tanks tend to blow apart at high boost.

So what is all your opinions on turbo's? I have read that the HX40 has a larger exhaust wheel. Is this correct? |
I would go with the 351cw, spools fast, cools well.

I need to lower my EGT's a lot. I can easily hit 1500* in fourth on flat ground with no load. I would like to change the fuel pin and turn the power screw in farther. I don't want to run water/methanol or twins at this point in time.
The HE351CW has a 9cm exhaust housing with a 4" + outlet, correct? The HX40 has a 16cm exhaust housing and a 4" outlet. In my mind, the HX40 should keep my EGT's a fair bit lower. Is this correct? I would rather have more useable power for pulling than a fast spool-up. |
I don't think the 40 will lower them that much more than a 351, the "super 40" (best of the 40's) and 351 have the same compressor wheel. Many report the hx40 is somewhat slow to spool.

Has anybody ran both a super HX40 and HE351CW (at different times of course)? Which ran cooler? |
