HTT Upgrade

Say I go and upgrade my H1C, I just rebuilt it and had it balanced before assembly, and through out assembly made sure the shaft marks were all still in line. If I would upgrade it with the HHT kit, would I have to rebalance it?

It's advisable to do so, but hey, I hit 54 psi with mine and it's not rebalanced =)

The "correct" way would be to rebalance it, but I don't know of a single person that has.

I do know of at least one person that has trashed their turbo attempting the install though.

I think you would be safe without a rebalance, but I would save my money for an actual turbo upgrade.

how did that one person trash the turbo?? All you do is take the nut off and slide the new wheel on and torque it down to the right specification. its pretty darn easy.

i don't see how rebalancing it would achieve anything. think about it. your taking a balanced wheel off and putting a balanced wheel back on. That is unless if the 60mm wheel came unbalanced from holset. maybe there is something i am missing though

I think the person who "trashed" their turbo did so because they didn't realize that the nut/shaft is reverse thread......

The guy who trashed his turbo is over on Cummins Forum. I'm not sure how he did it, didn't really care to ask...

I also heard once that the sky was falling.

I did read where one poor guy torqued his to 100 FOOT pounds and broke it off.

I bought a HTT upgrade and it did not fit. The wheel hit the housing. I sent it back and got my money back as at that time they said it was the last one they had and would not be having any more ever. I bought the 300 instead. I later bought a GDS 60 and put it on the same turbo for my 93. No issues with that kit.

Maybe didn't convert inch pounds into foot pounds?

I never rebalanced mine after upgrading. Been getting along fine. I'm sure if it was out of balance it would have self destructed already.
