Head Studs

Looking for headstuds but ARP and BD only list 94-98 12v trucks for their head stud kits. Can these be used on a 1990 truck?

Yep, I just installed the ARPs on my '93. You'll likely need to grind the inside of the valve covers and slightly shorten the studs in order to prevent valve cover interference. My understanding is that the older blocks weren't tapped as deep/consistantly as newer ones.

99.9% sure yes

Most performance shops don't/won't acknowledge that there were any dodge cummins built before 94 so even though something will fit our older trucks they just have their head stuck up their *** that they can't include our fine trucks.

We just have to be smart enough to figure out what will fit and what is different. The basic block/head did not change until the head changed in 98.5 with the 24 valve and even then the block is basically the same.

Lucky you!

My understanding is that there's enough variation that you won't know until you try. My valve covers are chrome an it makes really evident that there's contact between the studs and V/Cs because you can see the V/Cs bow as you tighten down the V/C nuts. This can cause the V/C gaskets to leak because they aren't compressed as they should be.
