If I have not said this already.............
Anyone considering a 62/71/14 should have 400+ hp to the wheels or it will be hard to daily drive.
IMO the "ultimate" 1st gen turbo would be a 62/65/14; it will suite 95% of 1st genners out there more so than the 71 series turbos.

Once you get over 425+ hp you will probably need a 71 series.

Head; the other thing to consider is your elevation. What spools great for somebody in the midwest may not here in the mountain states.

Sounds like you are having some nice weather there today as we are here, or was that yesterday?

Thanks for the input. Who sells the 62/65/14 S300? I was thinking of going with the 12 cm turbine housing so I don't lose too much spool up, I dunno.

I'm probably going to stick with the 351. It takes quite a lot of effort to get it to go past 30 psi anyways. It never goes past 25 psi 99% of the time with the way I drive my truck.

Weather is still poor here. It feels like December already.

HTT sells them. and a 62/65/12 is an HTB2. They're like $1500

Industrial injection sells every kind of turbo combo ever.. and seems to have the best prices. PDR doesn't even list the turbine size on their "custom" 62mm turbos...

Yea i say to keep the HE351, Put the P/s intercooler in (big diff.), And maybe an exhaust manifold upgrade

I just put on a HTB2 62/12 and love it, spools quick, egts are down and sounds like a jet plane.

3rd gens seem to run more DP that earlier trucks based on the cam profile. At 36psi I wouldn't worry about it.

What # exhaust springs are you running?

The Head: Do you have the vgt set up to modulate the vanes at all, or are you running in a set position? There are a few 12v guys on compd using a standard wastegate controller referenced to drive pressure to open the vanes up and are absolutely loving it. This is what I plan to do over the winter. Shoot, 60mm compressor wheel, variable exhaust housing from like 3.5cm to 26cm and an exhaust brake, and I can get one on ebay for 90 bucks?! I'm in!

My drive pressure was 52 pounds at 38 pounds boost. I don't think 30 pounds drive pressure is a problem.

I'm using the normal HE351, not the VGT 351.

I do have a VGT 351 sitting in my basement doing nothing though. Maybe when they get their control method down pat, I will get it out of it's box.

I can hit 39 psi now if I really mash it. I don't know what kind of DP that is for us... maybe 53 psi I guess? At what point do we need to get worried about it?

Anyways, I'm going to stick with the 351 for now. My truck runs pretty good. I'm going to get it repainted instead.

High drive pressure just means you're not as efficient as you could be. It won't hurt anything but hp.

I am A little confused I thought the 62/71/12-14 was the sweet spot for the First genners ???? Seems like A good number of people Love the S300G 62/71/12-14's . Are you saying they will be to slow to spool as a Daily driver ?

S300G is alot smaller than a 62/71/14. It's like 57/6X/14. It's the smallest S300 afaik.

The 62/65/12 or 14 and the 62/71/14 are both S300 based turbos but, as mentioned above the S300G is smaller yet.

A 62/65 series will spool slower than an HX-35; a 62/71 series will spool about 100-200 rpm slower than the 62/65. If you don't have enough fuel when using a 62/71 series (or any turbo that is a tad too big), it could make less power than the 62/65 and everday driveability will suffer.

I was under the impression that the S300G was what the base was for the 62/71/12- 14 was ?
