Unhappy Getrag update...

Ok, the tranny is in and works fine---that's the good news. No more falling out of 3rd and 5th. Got the old tranny apart too---the bearing between the input shaft and main shaft was pretty well shot. Anyway, as it turns out, there's still an awful noise coming from under there. Shoulda done more diagnosis before I tore into the tranny---I just ASSumed, and you know what that makes me So it's gotta be the t-case---sound changes with speed, not rpm. U-joints are fair to good and the sound is coming from right under the seat. What breaks in a gear drive 205? Sounds like a bearing is gone in there and some shaft is slopping around in its race. I'm trying not to be too mad, but it's tough. Anybody with any 205 knowledge or advice, let me have it. I'll be tearing into it tomorrow morning with some fresh eyes-tonight I'm just too frustrated.

I looked at the TSB and this is exactly the noise I'm getting on my Getrag. When it warms up some I'm planning on changing the tranny oil and overfilling it by a quart. Planning to use Mobile 1 synthetic 5W40.

19 degrees is to nippy to be under a truck with the north wind blowing. Next year I'll need tofind a garage or a warmer location.

Well, I put the truck on jackstands today--setting on the axles to simulate actual ride height. Fired her up and put her in gear while my buddy who owns the shop watched things go 'round. Turns out the rear diff is TOAST...at least that's where the godawful noise is coming from. Gonna tear the cover off tomorrow, but will most likely be calling the scrapyards in the morning. Anybody got any spares for sale with 354's? I know my sig says 4.10's, but I don't think the po knew what was up---he also said the rear diff was fine! I'm open to d70, d80 single or dual wheel---stacks will be easier with a flatbed anyway
