gauge mounting
i bought the dual gauge pillar pod from autometer the other day. the way i've seen them mounted is to drill a hole in each corner of the pod, as well as holes in the a-pillar trim piece. my thing is, i'd much rather not drill holes into the plastic to salvage it as best i can. i've considered buying a trim piece from a junkyard truck as a replacement and painting it to match (if the interior color differs), and mounting the gauge pod on it. also because i wouldn't particularly care to "destroy" the one i find on a junked truck. on the other hand, would some pieces of velcro or some good double-sided tape hold the pod in place on the plastic well? i may just be too picky about not wanting to alter the truck's original interior too much.
I don't blame you, I feel the same way about drilling holes in my truck. If you can find a used pillar trim piece, it would sure be a good idea. Even if you can find a way to mount the pod without drilling holes, in my experience you would still have to drill a big hole for the wiring, unless your 1st gen pod is different than the ones I have installed.
Yeah you will have to drill holes anyway. I cut a big slot in mine, started with a drill bet, and finished with a coping saw. Then for a school project, I made my pillar into a 4-gauge pod. Not quite done yet, but I will post pics before long.
Try 3m urethane window adhesive. It can be bought in a caulking tube at most any auto parts stores. We use the 2 part version for installing windos and the 1 part for repairing leaks or loose seals. I am not sure about plastic but it will glue to peices of aluminum together like you wouldnt believe. Just done make a mess with it, once its on the kitchen table its staying there!!
