What is in a white bottle that i see a lot of dodge diesel owner's pouring into their fuel tanks? Why do they do this and does it help?

I'm trying to learn how to take care and fix my own truck.

Could be for several reasons. Like to keep the fuel from gelling when its cold, or to change the burning or lubrication characteristics of the fuel.

From what I understand, and please correct me somebody (like I know you will ); but if you buy clean, new, fuel from reputable sources there's no reason to add anything extra to the tank - unless you need an anti gelling due to freezing temps and water in your tank?

Now having said that I'm sure there are those that are completely sold on using one treatment or another for whatever reason and will shoot me down, so fire away !

 

It could be, i didn't see the label, just could tell the bottle was white when the two men poured it in their fuel tanks at the truck stop. Just wondered if this is something i should be doing and if it really works.

 

The new fuel ulsd has no sulpher in it, it doesnt lubricate as well, lot of ppl add a treatment to help the inkector pump. And yes you should.

 

I use the stuff BC as a picture of. I also add about half a quart of 2 stroke motor oil in at every tank. me being a 24v guy, I really don't want to buy a new vp$$ so I take all the precautions I can. With the 2 stroke and power service the noise from the engine is definitely reduced. It can't hurt anything, and it keeps the PS keeps the injectors clean. Although, with my luck, I'm sure if I add up the cost of every bottle of PS and 2 stroke, it'll add up to the amount of a vp by the time it needed to be replaced . I use the white Power service cause it also has the antigel for these cold northeast winters ( its supposed to be in the 50's all week, sure glad I bought my "new" plow truck)

 

Winter fuel isn't as efficient, so it's a good idea to add it to help prevent soot build up AND get the lubrication benefit they CLAIM we don't need.

 

The guys who do my all of my pump work have been at it since the early 60's. They absolutely recommend running some kind of an additive due to the new ULSD. It seems there has been an increase in VE pump failures in the last few months. I take their advice, and I run Power Service brand because it's made in the town where I live (Weatherford Texas).

 

If you plan to use Power Service, you only need the white bottle in cold (teens and below) weather. Otherwise get the gray bottle.

 

See, I knew there'd be many opinions .

I should have mentioned the ULSD, seeing as how I just had to have my VE rebuilt with new seals. But like it was stated earlier, "THEY" say we don't need it...

 

I run power service in my 93,and it does seem to run better.I noticed that as soon as I started runing ulsd,that my truck didn't seem to have quite the power as it did before. Has any one else noticed this,or am I imagining things?

 

I've put 16oz. of PS in the tank ever fill up since the end of September and it definately makes a difference in the output of the engine and haven't had an injection pump problem yet with ULSD thankfully.

 

I started using a 50/50 16oz of PS and MMO. I have seen my mileage go up slightly over the past 2 tanks and the truck seems to run better now. I'm going to keep on using it. I'm hoping this mileage increase is caused by the PS and MMO. I'm thinking about giving this lucas stuff a try next.

 

I use PS (white in winter, gray in summer) for the extra lubrication for the VE as well as the anti-gel properties in the winter.

 

I use it (white bottle).. My fuel milage went up and truck seems to run better. Tractor supply has it for 12.?? a gal
