Front LSD

Anyone running a limited slip in the D60? If so, how does it drive on the road and do you like it? Trying to decide whether or not to install mine.

I ran lockers in a 3500 back when I worked at Dana... Not fun. The truck would pull whereever it had traction, and on snowy roads it'd pull you into a ditch. Of course, you could practically drive right back out of it with the darn things, but I still wouldn't want it unless the front at the very least is selectable. An LSD should be a lot better.

It depends on what you are using the truck for. Mud drags and boggin lockem up solid! no doubt in my mind. Serious diggin on sloppy trails, posi or torrington all around or with a locker in the rear. Over road on hard pack and ice, loose posi bolth ends or open. my 2ct

I'm thinking of putting the LSD in the new truck. I have to take it apart to do the ring and pinion anyway I figured while I had it apart I'd install the LSD.

Do you know how to set up a R & P? Backlash, preloads, GTP, etc? Its not something you should decide to try... Not saying you aren't capable, just making sure other guys don't try it without experience or the proper training.

Mine has a LSD in the rear well both trucks do. 4x4 is open in front I believe but a selectable locker is what I am going to use, keep it open or lsd most of the time and lock when needed.

Mine isn't selectable, just a straight limited slip.

Well, here's a good solution. Install it, get a couple bottles of friction modifier, and drive it. If the front end is grabby, throw some more friction modifier in it. Keep in mind, the thing is grabby with an open front diff, putting an LSD in it is just going to make it worse, but if you only use 4wd where you absolutely need it, and never on the road, don't put in any FM, it'll be nice and grabby like you would want it off-road.

Well the truck is a daily driver for now, and we do tend to get a bit of snow in the winter. So, if in a case of driving home from work and there is enough snow for 4wd, you think it will be to much to use on the road. I've never messed with 4wd limited slip before, always been a 2wd guy. Thanks for your help.

Well, I'd leave it in 2wd until the roads are packed with snow, because the extra strain on everything, and I mean everything, could break something. That, and it'll want to pull towards whichever side has traction. With a LSD in the rear, you should be able to get moving and stay moving in 2wd, and if you get stuck, just throw it in 4wd until you can pull it out. The only vehicle I've ever driven with front and rear LSD's is a Grand Cherokee with QuadraDrive, and those are electronic, so they act as open diffs til you need them. Worst thing that happens is you have to put a bunch of FM in the oil and run it closer to an open diff.

An air locker will give you the open diff for over road and the option to lock it up in a pinch.
