First road trip since HTT 4

I drove up to see my folks in Northern VA, Saturday and decided to run with the traffic on 95 and not worry about how much fuel cost. At 75 on cruise control my EGT's ran 800 average. Boost sat on the zero peg on level ground but climbed up to about 5 pounds pulling the humps. What was impressive was the throttle response after passing 80 mph. I didn't stay at 80 long enough to check parameters but that truck sure runs smooth. I had no trouble keeping up with the out of state drivers in their Escalades and Excursions. The ones that left me in the wind were the rice rockets. They have no respect for bigger vehicles. Anyway the HTT stage 4 turbo upgrade is a hit with me. It is noisy but I think I can knock that back with the "Stock Pot" BHAF mount. Trans fluid temp stayed steady at 160 degrees once I got out of town. THe stop and go driving runs it up to 240 degrees. Gas mileage for the trip was 17.5miles per gallon. At $2.39.9 a gallon it cost $51.00 for fuel. Plus meals for my nine year old granddaughter and myself. It felt good to see my family.

What was your mileage b4 the Stage 4? I'm wanting to get one but I really don't want it to kill my mileage. I usually see anywhere from 5 to 8 psi when im cruising at about 75. Did you cruise with positive pressure before the upgrade? Thanks a ton

This seems odd. Most people say they have 4+ psi of boost on level ground at ~70mph. Have you ever tested your intake system for leaks?

The mileage was the same before the turbo upgrade. I never saw the boost needle move much prior to that unless I had my foot in it. I did not spend a lot of money on the boost gage so don't trust the numbers enough to compare with what you are running. It was originally intended to be an oil pressure gage. It was made overseas in a land I cannot pronounce. My main reason for the HTT Stage 4 upgrade was to lower EGT's, which it has done. It also leaves room for bigger injectors when the money is right. Htt says it should support 400 horsepower, but I am pretty sure it needs to exhaust thru straight pipe to achieve it.

No, I did a visual inspection and replaced a hump hose to the cooler with a peice of straight exhaust hose. I haven't run a pressure test yet. But then my gages are not the most trustworthy.

I sure would like to see you get to 400. Are you still playing with a 14mm head?

Nope. My 14 mm head is still sitting on the bench unopened. I don't have anywhere near the air needed to run that thing. Maybe next year...

Sounds more like it's time for more dynamic timing.

I think an HTT Stage IV would be great for your truck, especially with the 14wg housing. Mine dropped EGT's about 150 degrees and gave me more usable boost. I started with the 12cm housing, then changed back to the 18.5 to control boost. With the 12cm housing, I could get 42psi and only 1250*. Now with the 18 I'm at 34psi and still 1250*.

Here's a link to the install: https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...d.php?t=112422

You can get one from www.htturbo.com for around 300 shipped.

EDIT: As for the sound, my friend said "he thought he heard a siren" when I shut the truck off. (I explained that it was the turbo spooling down.) It's got quite a whistle.

Yesterday I replaced my BHAF with a 12" AFE PG7. I thought the turbo was loud before, now it's insane!

It rained all day today. Can't go to full power in any gear on wet roads.
