Factory Manual High idle set-up
Going to post up this thread with the info and pics I just found that I had posted up almost 5 years ago now! Now it can then be searched and found a little easier. ;)
The Factory High idle set-ups came on 89/90 1st gen trucks with a Cummins and 5 speed Getrag transmission. I snagged my set-up off E-bay when it popped up one night with a BIN price...Couldn't be happier with it and use it all the time. I installed it on a 1993 dash frame no problem, holes and brackets were there and it mounted perfectly. Pics of the assembly.... Location to the right of the fuse panel.... https://i697.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4e8f1d6d.jpg Bracket location on back of dash...upside down.... https://i697.photobucket.com/albums/...ps89c167ac.jpg Bracket and handle.... https://i697.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5cfab8fe.jpg https://i697.photobucket.com/albums/...pscae6e088.jpg |

This is great but how is one supposed to get it to work? I have pushed, pulled, twisted the thing and nothing happens. Mine is either badly messed up or I'm really stupid. (not out of the realm of possibility)
Thanks Edwin |
-You use your foot to depress the pedal slightly, think 1500 rpm is the max I can get out of my set-up,
-Then you pull out slightly on the little handle to get the cable to tighten up and pull the little lever to engage the pedal, -Then give it a little twist to the right to lock the cable in place and your idle should now be set at whatever your foot chose. Sometimes it takes a time or two to get the little handle to lock in place, but don't twist too hard or you might damage the locking mechanism....I read that somewhere at some point. ;) I also like to give the throttle a little "tap" after setting the idle just to ensure that the little lever is set in place properly. |

Hey TC, I found the same one on Ebay as well. Mine looks to be an earlier version of yours. |

I would use some light oil and move it around a bit.
