Engine Fire!

Well the results are in. Insurance declared the old girl a write off. Hopefully I'll find out what the buy back is today. Looks salvageable to me, don't you think?

I am sorry. Good deal on the write-off. I have never seen an engine fire for a diesel. What happened?

Looks salvageable to me too, if the buyback isn't to high.

The 90' parts cab I have was totaled out because of a fire in that same area, no idea what caused it though it was pretty stripped by the time I got it. Was there any recalls in those years?

My guess is that a transmission cooler hose blew and sprayed on the turbo. More guesses?

Thats what i was thinking^^^^^ there is realy nothing over there that could be flammable except for the turbo feed line and the tranny cooler lines and the turbo line doesnt look like it burst.

Looks like a blower motor. Thats where it looks hottest.

Did the fire enter the cab?

A blown out #6 cylinder exhaust manifold gasket can cause this or possibly non-factory wiring that is not properly fused, ie:trailer accesory wires.

smoked

my guess is oil or trans fluid, check level of engine oil, anything around the cooler pressure line would be fine, near turbo/exhaust heat, would likely fail, if its a trans line, youll see obvious traces underneath from leak, prior to fail, right?

Did you get it shut down before the flames got out of control? By the looks the motor may have survived.

I wonder if it was an A/C line rupturing, the R134A is supposed to be quite flammable , and if it blew onto the hot turbo....

Sorry for the loss...looked like a nice rig.

Wow that is sad looking, maybe the transmission heat exchanger or lines to it ruptured and sprayed transmission fluid onto the hot turbo, but defiantly had to a flammable fluid being sprayed and not just a short circuit.

Were you pulling a grade where the transmission could of been overheating?

Did the fire go out on its own or did they have to put it out?

Makes you glad you didn't try and charge your A/C using propane.

Sorry about your truck.

Jim
