Dumb Question...

Hey Guys, here is a question for you.

I recently degreased/pressure washed my engine, the water in fuel light came on afterwards. I know the sensor on the fuel filter(new) will show water in fuel if it gets wet so I wasn't concerned. Well it stayed on for a few days so I depressed the valve on the fuel filter and got what looked like a small amount of water. I opened it all the way and got what looked and smelled like pure diesel. It would drain for as long as I opened the valve.

Are there two stages to the drain, or is there a problem?

Thanks!

You probably have moisture trapped in the plug for the water-in-fuel light, shorting across, fooling it into thinking there is water in the filter.

Yeah, that's what I figured. Do you know anything about the drain on the filter? Will it only drain water or will diesel also come out?
Thanks!

it has been my experience that it will drain anything out of the filter, water diesel, liquid midgets or anything that will fit

Whatever is in the filter bowl will drain out. This a neat feature when you change the filter. Place a catch container under the drain hose and open the drain and vent. When the filter is empty the mess is less.

Before getting things wet, again, pull the plug apart, smear in a glob of Vaseline, and re-plug.

The Vaseline is about the best water repellent available.
