Detroit Locker

Just ordered the Detroit locker, carrier bearings, races and pinon seal today. It's amazing what $700 bucks get's you these days . I guess my axels will be the next weakest link, but at least that are cheaper than the diff .

My head gasket is leaking like a seive, and so is my rear main. Going to save up for a clutch next. Looks like I'm going to have to do the head gasket really soon though. I'm creating a super fund site every where I stop with the anti freeze and oil I leave on the ground......

carolinaclassictrucks.com. Great outfit, nice people, amazing price on the Locker ($630). No one else even came close on the price. My diff guy told me that $630 is jobber.

The truck went in the shop this morning for the Detroit swapout. Praying that the ring and pinion are in good shape...
I asked if they were going to have it done today and they chuckled... not a good sign for getting it back for the snowy weekend .

Million Dollar Rear End saga

Turns out the carrier bearings failed catastrophically which broke the ring gear and the reluctor was scraping on the case!
I have the parts at the shop waiting to go in.....

How do you expect the towing manners? Ive read the detroit can have a whipping, or surging i guess under load. Can't remember how it was described, just sounded lousy with 10k behind you.
