clark transmission
An SAE adaptor should work with a Clark trans (not sure if it would be a #2 or #3 one). Do you happen to know the ratios of the one you have in mind? I know someone that built a crew cab chevy with a DT466 and a Clark 5 speed, I don't remember what gear it was but he didn't like the ratio jump and said you'd have to wind it up tight if you where towing.

The first gear in most clark 5 speeds is 6.99 from what ive found. and the gears are so spread apart the shifter would probably hit the dash or the seat
. i dont think the 5th gear is a o/d either.

The Spicer transmissions in the buses at work are non-OD five speeds with a very low first gear like that. It's not better or worse than having an OD gear, you just might need to change the rear axle ratio to compensate.
They're REALLY big and heavy and shift slowly though, so unless you're going to use it for towing it isn't a good idea. For towing though, it would probably last forever. I think the Spicers have a GCWR of 60,000 pounds.
