can i fit 8 inch wide rims on my 89 d250?

I can't say for sure on your 2wd, but, I'm running standard 16x10 black steelies with 4.125" backspacing on my W250 with no issues whatsoever.
I wouldn't think that any of the standard aftermarket 8 lug wheels would cause you any issues, only OEM stuff with goofy offsets/backspacing.
