brake drums

I'm trying to up grade my brakes and had trouble geting new drums. I did a search on this site and found that the drums on my w250 are the same as d350 dually and so are the wheel bearings and seals, So can some one tell me what is missing to put duals on my truck? is it all in the hubs? I have dually adaptors on it now but would like to put those on the front and have the same wheels all the way around. Ken

Well, if the brake drum/hubs are exactly the same then you would only need to use the proper wheels. Mine has 8 lug bolts per wheel.

I believe the dually axle is wider. I don't think the inners would clear the bed sides. The hubs and drums are identical.

I'm pretty sure the axle housing is completely different, with different spindles. I know that the hub seals are different: CR seal 28746 for SRW and 30033 for DRW. I recall the 30033 seal for the duallies is quite a bit larger.

Not sure on 2wd's, but on 4wd, the inner bearing and seal is considerably larger on the 350. That said, the hubs are different and the spindles are larger too. Also the 250's use a 32 spline axle, and the 350's use a 35. I guess what I am saying is, unless you swap to a dually axle you won't have the same strength.

The front spindles are the same DRW or SRW. If you can find a set of dually hubs, you will be all set. You can use either the late model (post 91) Dodge hubs, or mid eighties chevy hubs. The earlier Dodge hubs will fit, but the brakes & lockouts are different, generally considered not as good, and you would have to swap them as well.

The dually rear hubs & spindles are different, and the axle housing is wider on the duallies. I also thought that the stud size was differnet on the duallies, and thus the drums were not interchangeable on the rear either

The threaded part may be a different size, but the knurled portion that holds the hub and drum together may be the same. I know the drums I finally ended up with (after three trips back to the parts store) were for a '92 D350. None of the drums listed for a D250 - even one with 12x3" brakes - were correct.

Well, if your parts supplier was right, it must be the same. Maybe we should get the Bendix part number and put it in the tech facts parts list? Does anyone have it?

BTW, Dan: Everyone gets abducted, its just that the mind control doesn't work as well on rednecks and wackos . . .

I have a set of Bendix (I think) drums at home I can get the numbers off. If I remember I'll post them up when I get home.

I guess you have to have a mind for mind control to work....

While we're on the topic, I believe there is a difference in axle housings between a dually pickup and a dually cab & chassis. I think the frame rails are farther apart on the c & c, for what it's worth.
