Big Bummer! Head gasket dies 250 miles from home
Hmmm the link work now that I'm at work....
It will be interesting how the simple green works!!!!!!!!
I flushed my system to many times to count with Liquid Tide.
and for month after keep getting a small film of oil in my over flow!
I truly hope the simple gree works for ya, cus you have one h@## of a mess to attend with.
water and oil don't mix so you can put it in plastic container, let it sit over night, the poke a hole in the bottom to let out the antifreeze and then can dump the waste oil were it belongs.
Just remember that the guy didn't now what he was talking about......or he wanted a 1st gen for cheap!
You truck will run just fine after word's!
Flash.

Sorry to hear about your engine. There is a good article at this web site http://thepowershop.com/index.php?pr=Relief on your problem. Toward the end of the article there is good info on how they finally got the oil sludge removed from the engine with Simple Green. Hope it helps. Did you find out if there was water in the oil pan. Oil pressure from either the head gasket or cooler should have prevented it from contaminating the oil system.
I was gonna suggest this too. We had an oil cooler go bad in a CAT 769C rock truck when i worked in the quarry. We spent 8 hours continually flushing the radiator with hot water from a heated pressure washer mixed with simple green and pine sol. It worked great and we never had any oil resideue upon the end of the flushing. Cant tell ya how many how may 55gal barrels we filled up with oily, hot, soapy water from all those drains.
If i was closer to ya, i'd be glad to come out and help. I'm always up for an emergency tow job to get somehwere someone. The last place i drove before i broke my leg was to towbar someones car off the NYS thruway to get them home.
Well, $200 worth of fuel and trailer rental later, I got my truck home safely tonight.
When I picked it up, I checked the oil, and I was never so happy to see a dry dipstick in my life
No coolant in the sump even though the guy went out of his way to tell me that on the phone and it was written plain as day on the work order i paid. So either they never even pulled the dipstick and just assumed there was coolant in the sump, or they did check it and made up a story. Either way I paid them 1/2 hour of shop time to tell me something I already knew-that there was oil in my radiator.
I added a bunch of oil to the sump and drove the truck out of their lot and onto the trailer.
I bought an oil cooler on ebay, and was finally moved to cough up for the cummins and dodge factory manuals. Shouldn't take too long to be back on the road. I stopped off at the coin-op self help car wash on the way home and spent about $10 in quarters blasting the engine compartment and front suspension clean, so at least it will be a little more pleasant to work on.
thanks again for everyone's advice and offers of help!

went to geno's garage for the FSM from dodge and went to the cummins website for the b engine manuals.
Turned out to be somewhat over $200 including shipping. I've been putting off buying those forever!

Yeah, I admit that since i've had this truck I've been acting like the engine will last forever with fluids and filters and nothing else. And for the most part, it's been true. But when something like my broken oil cooler happens, I wish I had some diagrams to look at at least, and I REALLY need some wiring diagrams. I''ve gone past the terrirtory of the Haynes manual for sure!
It's time and I've been wanting to do kind of an overall clean up and improvement of the truck in general anyway. it needs it's valves adjusted, steering gear and drag link fixed, rear brakes and antilock fixed, seat replaced, leaks fixed, gauges etc etc etc....
