Hehehe... Are you a bee-keeper by any chance?

Most people say Fleetgaurd. Baldwin, Wix and Mopar are also acceptable.

Just DON'T, DO NOT, NEVER EVER EVER EVER use a Fram.

I personally know a guy, and lots of other people have similar stories, about Fram oil filters being sucked into the engine.

One of the guys that got me into these trucks bought a new truck... He had a mechanic do one of the first oil changes, and he used a Fram filter. It amounted to a $20,000 repair bill, of which he had to split in half with the mechanic.

There's somekind of list someplace of Cummins-certified filters; anything not on the list voids warranty. (Or isn't covered under warranty...) I don't remember the list, though...

doubt there is much argument to Fleetguard (Cummins issue) (stratapore, i.e. synthetic filter material, doesn't chunk off into your crankcase, nore hold or be destroyed by moisture... )

I got my last here
http://www.shopdiesel.com/index.cfm/...gory_id/27.htm
at the time 16035 (newer PN for LF3894) was $7.10 in case lot of 12

I definately would be very careful to run a FRAM (and not really keen on Mobil 1, tho I use it in my John Deere lawn mower, and wife's mini van) I would stick with a true synthetic,

The FRAM has caused too many failures to risk use... as noted on the VW-D site I lurk at. 80 - 150 PSI seems to be too much for the FRAM, they also seem to fall off in high vibration application(+in VW application FRAM has incorrect bypass pressure, rubber washer) It is interesting to cut them up, also compare weight when shopping. I will bet with a Baldwin or Wix you can feel difference to FRAM my hand. This is usually due to less filter material, and thinner filter body in the weaker species.

Fleetguard is Cummins' house brand. Any Cummins dealer will stock Fleetguard. The best Fleetguard has to offer is the Stratopore, it has synthetic filter media. They also offer a fiberglass based media they call Microglass in addition to the plain ol' paper filter.

Donaldson is another big name in heavy truck filters, their ELF filter is the next best thing to a bypass filter system.

As long as you are using the Truck & SUV formula AKA Delvac 1, you are using the best oil you can buy for your truck. If you are using gasser M1, get it out of there! It doesn't have the additive package to hold all the soot a diesel puts in the oil.

Where did you get the idea that M1 isn't a true synthetic?

Fleetguard makes the filters for Mopar. You can use any 5.9 Dodge Cummins oil filter on our 1st gens.

For oil I use what has ALWAYS been used in this engine, Rotella 15w40 with advanced soot control. I have 7 gallons of Rotella full synthetic 10w40, but I may use it in my Silv and Blazer.

I just use the Mobil 1 filter because there good filters.

I also have a remote oil kit from Cummins that switches over to 2 filters instead of one and has an oil cooler. I will probibly install it when i change the oil next.

Which filters finer, Stratopore or Microglass? Price comparison?
