Question Another "what's it's value?"

I know this question is totally subjective and hard to quantify without seeing it. And I'm not talking intrinsic worth. Just trying to get an idea of what range these are selling for.

A friend is a second owner of a 1993 W350 club cab stick with 155,xxx miles. Motor is stock save for a timing bump. Dually bed, new tires (don't know size & brand) and new brakes all around (calipers, rotors, drums, etc). He used it as his farm truck, has goosneck ball. Haven't seen it lately but from what I remember is has rusty rockers and a few minor dents and is a dusty/dirty interior.

NADA says about $4,500 +/-, Kelly says low to mid $5K. Friend wants $5K.

All he knows that's wrong with it is downshifting from 4-3 will grind if crowded and the headlight switch is going.

What did I forget? And I'll have a better description when I actually see it again.

The decent DRW club-cab 5-speed 4x4 1st Gen. Cummins are the hottest ones on E-Bay.

In poor condition, they will fetch around 5000.

If you like/want it, don't let a few hundred dollars too much money keep you from getting it.

Those particular ones are hard to come by and not often seen for sale, and it will be a long time before another one like it comes along, especially a 5-speed.

I have seen really slick ones go for around 12,000.

If you decide against it, let me know who and where.

Another thing to consider :

You can fix a questionable Getrag a whole lot easier and cheaper than you can hunt for, find, buy, and swap one into an automatic.

I would pay more for a truck with a rebuildable Getrag than an identicle truck with a perfect automatic.

It is a lot easier when the Getrag is already there, even if it needs a rebuild.

$4500 seems a little high with the problems it has.

$3500 would be tops and more like $2500 would be more like it.

All IMHO.

Bearkiller, you need to come over here to Western KY, we have lots of trucks for cheaper than what you are talking about.

I agree with haloman, I wouldn't pay 5k for a truck with known tranny problems. I think $2500 may be a little low, but I wouldn't go over $3500.

My dad is looking for this kind of truck! One with a couple little issues he can afford to buy and gradually put a little money into to make it nice! He would love a nice W350 but they are being bought up fast and they are getting pricy! If you decide not to take it let me know! As far as what its really worth, its all how bad you want it/need it! I wouldnt let anyone touch my truck for less than 10k!!!!!!!!!! And thats only if I had to sell it!!!!!!!! My dad has 3 first gen, 4x4, w250, diesels. Ever since I bought my last one (dually, cc,5spd,4x4) he has been trying to find one like it! Around here in WV these trucks are so rare! I get asked all the time to sell mine. Deffinitly true about the auto's. They are total gunk! I would love to swap a nv4500 into mine, hopefully one day! Again, if you dont want it for $5k let me know. I would love to see some pics and a little more info such as ratio?

If I read the info correctly, this ain't no standard-cab truck we are talking about, besides that, it is a DRW.

I will go along with the $3500-$4500 range for a regular-cab W-250 SRW.

Of course, I sneak up on the odd bargain, now and again.

And, it IS a 5-speed.

Bear,
How much would a 93 W-350 reg cab, 5spd 4x4 White paint with minimal flaking, no rust, decent 5spd, 120,000 ish miles, Flatbed, totally stock, good maitenance, newer tires (85%), running boards, aux tank, runs great with no leaks be worth in your opinion?

Yep, club cab, 5-speed with 6 new tires (says they cost him $1,000 and that was about 500 miles/5 months ago). Brakes were another $800.

DRW CC W350s around here I can count on one hand (and that's going back a couple years). Same for CC W250s. Single cabs and 2X4s I may have to take one boot off .

I don't know the gearing and can't remember if its an LE or not. Other than that it is dark blue with the gray insides.

He said the tranny shifts fine as long as you don't hurry the downshift from 4-3. He's driven it like that since he got it at 90,000.

The headlight switch issue is a non-issue once its relayed.

If the cab roof is good and the rockers aren't too far gone I agree with ya'll that the gutbag is an easy R&R. Be a good time to upgrade the clutch, add a fill tube etc anyway. BTW - what could be the problem there? Synchro going out?

And the difference from eBay/CL/etc is that I know the owner and his maint/driving habits, test driving is no problem and there is no haulfee/airfare/etc. Thats got to be worth something .

My opinion right now ain't worth much, but PM me some phone-numbers and I will get my people to get with your people and maybe thin out some of that surplus of 1st Gen.s.

1st Gen. Cummins trucks are like flashlights and pocket-knives; there is no such thing as having too many.

Bearkiller, me and you have the same way of thinking! Even though currently I only have one left my dad has 3 and my brother has 1. So that is a total of 5 in our immediat family! But I have the only dually! My dad never wanted one. Even when I bought mine he said the only difference is I would have to buy two more tires! Then I let him tow with my truck one time!!! Then I had him help me dispose some forklifts at my work and we loaded 8 crown PE's (1700lbs apiece) onto his 6800lbs lowboy. We crossed the scales at just under 27000lbs total gross wieght. That is the most wieght he has ever hauled! Now its an obession for him to find one like mine!!!!!! People around here dont really like my family! They know who we are because of the trucks! Envey is such an ugly thing! I always tell them to find them before we do! Agian, I like your qoute! Robert

The Getrag issue isnt really that big of a deal unless it has other issues. I had a rebuilt one with brand new synchros and bearings grind if you went into 3rd from 4th at too high a speed. My guess would be a worn 3-4 synchro ring hoder assembly thingie. The metal part that grabs the synchronizer, you know. $5K isnt too much for it, IMO, esp if you know the history of it.

KRB- if yours was a stick, I'd swap ya.
