Another Banks Intercooler Thread

Is there ANYWHERE to get a banks setup? I know they quit making this stuff a long time ago but I was hoping somebody knew where a used one was or someone knew of someone that was hoarding them. Thanks. Dan

Because IMO it would be harder to swap in a PSD intercooler into a non intercooled pickup than it would be an already intercooled pickup. The i/c core support leaves more room between the grill and core support. The banks one is designed to fit very nicely and since it would be bolt in, you really can't beat that. There's no way I'm sacrificing my A/C for this and/or running around without a grill.

Joe Hellmann will make you one.
From what I hear he is building one now for a non i/c truck.
I guarantee you it will flow more and cool better than a powerstroke or Banks.

The Powerstroke IC "can" be successfully installed in an A/C truck with no compromises. It cools pretty good too. I have low EGT running a 12cm housing - 1200 max.

YES, I would be vary interested in some more info on this too!!!

My plans were, and still are to convert the radiator and the intercooler to 2nt gen..............But i might be willing to modify my plan a little bit.

Do you have a link to there sight or are they custom one of a kind build?

I need an intercooler also. I was thinking of doing a top mounted one like some of the 6.5 diesel guys do or even water to air.

The Banks intercooler had to have their custom grille installed- it wouldnt fit behind the standard 89-90 grille. The only way to get away with installing an intercooler and not doing any body work is if you have a 91 with the spacious grille to start.

I had planned on putting a 2ndGen IC in my 91. I figure, I have to cut and fabricate, why not go bigger?

flashgordon- I would be hesistant to install a 2ndGen radiator- all of them I've seen have plastic tanks. They may hold up just fine, but it doesnt give me that warm fuzzy feeling inside.

It is possible to trim the backside of the grille and fit the bank$ IC behind it. I have heard of one or two guys on tdr doing this, and my 83 grille has been trimmed as well.

Yah i now, but the 2nt gen are a much bigger radiator and will match the 2nt gen intercooler, and then i can us the 2nt gen shroud as well as the 2nt gen fan and fan clutch.
My 91.0 has EGT and Coolant over heat problems and the bigger fan, and fan clutch, will work for the intercooled shroud but, not a non intercooled radiator.

I'm no fan of the plastic tanks, but a small price to fix both problem.
And some day I'm going to actually acquire enough part to do it.
