AC compressor cycling timer experiment

I was thinking as an experiment, of trying out a programmable timer module to control my compressor clutch relay.
What on/off times do you folks think might work well?
I was thinking 8 seconds on and 12 seconds off.
Any thoughts?

Mine cycles because of the fact it doesn't have adequate pressure on the low side. This is because the system was designed for r-12 but it has r-134a in it. On my older systems I have worked on with r-12 they only started cycling when the pressure got low and needed to be charged up again. I have little experience with later stuff on r-134a.

IMHO though the system should be cycled by temperature and not time.

You need to figure out why it isn't cycling, cycling switch, wrong pressures? If everything is right it will (as Edwin says) cycle when appropriate.
