6bt in other apps/options?
I was reading HTT's website and noticed they claim a d350 turbo compressor is larger than a d250 compressor by a few. My truck is a 1991 non-ic. Which got me thinking, around those years ie 1993 and older, were other options available on 6bt's in other applications such as terminal yard trucks, farm usage, industrial, marine, etc? I cruise the junk yards here and there, and wondered if they used different turbo's, pump's, etc on different apps. I do know the marine engines do differ.

From what I've learned recently, as far as industrial apps go . . . . .
You're dealing with the 4B3.9, 4BT3.9, and the 4BTA3.9. Those are the 4 cylinder models. 6B5.9, 6BT5.9, and the 6BTA5.9 are the six cylinder models.
The XBx.x is the basic naturally aspirated unit be it 3.9 or 5,9 liters.
The XBTx.x is the turbocharged model.
The XBTAx.x is the turbocharged, after-cooled (air to water) model.
There's a butt-load of different apps here. Highway/agri apps (tractors, graders, scrapers, etc). Standby generators (gen-sets), and auxillary power units both stationary and marine. Standby fire pump-sets, etc.
They used four different IPs up until the early '90's with the P-pump coming into vogue.
The Bosch VE was used on both the T and TA models.
The Lucas CAV DPA was used on the marine units (250HP or less), gen-sets, and the naturally aspirated units.
The Lucas DPS was used on European B series units.
The Nippondenso EP-9 was used on the 300hp marine unit.
You can get the VE with remote as well as on-board (both one and two control lines) KSB control.
There are MANY hp rated units with in the six basic groups.
Heres' a good source of standard parts for such (6BTA5.9 / worth saving to your hard-drive ).
Installation ~ http://www.cumminsfirepower.com/imag...stallation.pdf
And parts ~ http://www.cumminsfirepower.com/imag...s/6bfparts.pdf
They share the same bore and stroke and many components outside that it takes to go from four to six cylinders (block, crankshaft, camshaft, head, exhaust manifold, etc).
The one aggravating aspect of searching parts for such is that most all parts countermen want an engine serial number to begin looking info.
Hope this helps.
