47RH Swap Questions
 

Ok I saw in the sticky that if I want to do this I need a trans from a 95ish truck. I have a line on a 47rh out of a 99 and was wondering what is the difference between this one and the earlier one. Would the newer one be ok for me to use or should I just wait and get a earlier one. After riding in JD730's truck this is definitly the way I want to go. Your help is appreicated and thanks in advanced.

Wouldn't the 99 have a 47re(or maybe 48re) instead of the rh? You may not want to attempt an re(electronic controlled) swap, much easier to do the rh(hydraulic controlled) one. About the only quick way I can tell is the rh's have an oval 3-pin connector, the re's have like an 8-pin square connector(I think...). What years/models were the rh vs re? Anyone...anyone...[coffee]

I have the 47rh trans. I bought mine from BD-Power but it is for a 94-95 dodge cummins. You also need 2wd or 4wd specific. Its the simple hydraulic activation that is desired as mentioned above because the trans is a simple 3 wire hook-up and can be controlled by two rocker switches. I have done a number of posts with a fair amount of info in them.( just search my past posts,should say 47rh in title) If you have questions feel free to PM me i'll try to help.
I couldnt be happier with my auto. The truck is a monster. Much faster then the 5spd and more reliable as well.

A 99 trans will be a 47RE. It is not hydraulically governed, it has a speed sensor in the trans, gov pressure sensor and a gov pressure solenoid to regulate the gov pressure. Overdrive and Lockup are activated the same as a 47RH. The primary differences are the valve body, overdrive section and the overdrive piston retainer. Overall length is shorter than a 47RH.
The 47RH in my truck used to be a 47RE out of a 96, took the OD off my A518 and the gears out of the 47RE, used the better parts, gears, etc... New OD piston retainer plus transmission overhaul and I was good to go.

94 and 95 where the only years they used the 47RH in the trucks, 1996 started using the 47RE and continued to early 2003.
