Just because you have a 5200 RPM spring dosent mean that you can turn that kind of RPM. It takes fuel, timing, a good cam and air, among other things.

a VE can handle high rpm's better than any other pump. you can run 6000rpm
with no problem. the only thing to avoid is injector opening pressures above
185 bar. p-pumps break on hi-rpm use, or are ready to rebuild in a few hours.

So if they put 245 bar injectors in stock, why is it not good for the pump to use more than 185 bar injectors. Is this only in high rpm applications, above what rpm?

You would think that the higher the pop off pressure of the injectors the less smoke you would have, but I can see that higher injector pressure would not be good for the pump.

I was thumbing through my manual this morning at work (slow day) and it says the injector pop off pressure is 3550 psi. This is a 1992 shop manual....dont know if that number helps anyone or not.

Here's a handy PSI-BAR converter:

I stumbled on this webiste and thought some of you might find it an interesting read. It also lists the max rpm's for the VE.

Bosch VE

"A mechanical governor limits the maximum speed of the engine to 4800 rpm in the bus/vanagon application and 5350 rpm in newer passenger cars. It can be seen just above the cam disk in the middle figure."

So can this pump push enough fuel to get the engine to spin that fast under load of course? If the right governor spring was installed, and how many rpms can this engine turn safely?

Safely is the key word. This is just a guess, but with the stock valve springs I wouldnt think you cold go much over 3500rpm before you start to float the valves. With 60lb valve springs there is no telling what kind of RPM you can turn. I just wanted bgilbert to fully understand that different applications run different rpm's. And yes, some of them do turn over 4000 rpms...

NeedMo, just because it says 'junior member' over there, doesn't mean this is my first rodeo . I'm sure you will agree, just because one has a 4200rpm or more gov spring doesn't mean that one will always run that high. Its just the idea that you can raise the defuel more than with a 3200 gov spring. Lots of us turn 4000 with a 3200spring. But with a 4200 spring we might be able to fuel harder up to 4k before dropping off near 3200. Thats why I mentioned posting a dyno sheet. From the ones I've seen of OldSmokey and Stomp, they seem to drop of the page at or near 3200rpm. KTA from another site fuels beyond 3200, WITH a 3200 spring so go figure..? . I was just wanting you to give up all the R&D you did to find the part number on that 4200spring and me not do the leg work . Yeah right go into a shop and ask about it , better hope you know someone there or get that speech on why its bad to alter the stock specs on pumps, turbos, etc. I mean no offense, and understand you keeping your info.
