It will be an HY-35 or an HE341, I do believe.

HE341 is the CORRECT ANSWER with the 9cm housing and it flows as good or better than a 12 on a hx go to the third gen High Performance selction and search for "turbo Vs turbo" the 03 early 04 is the 341 the 04.5 to 07 (5.9) is the he351 which is way more disireable.

So are the turbos off a 04.5 to 07 5.9 a good upgrade? How does that mount up, the turbo is oriented downward instead of on top of the manifold... Do you swap to a 24v manifold?

I believe its a bolt on, no manifold switching.

If i remember correctly, the 351 has a 60mm comp. wheel compared to stock 56mm, if the turbo is more then 250 i wouldnt buy it.

but also has an electronic computer wastegate.

Anyone have a pic of one on a 1st/2nd gen 12v? I can't see how that would work with the orientation of the turbo...

You might want to talk to Big Blue 24. He has a HE351 on his 2nd gen 24V and it works well for him. He posted some pictures in a thread once and basically he had a pipe bend up to transition between the outlet of the turbo and the intercooler.

If you're running a non IC 1st gen you could certainly have pipe bent to run a HE351. I saw a Cummins dragster in Diesel Power that had the pipe bent to run around the front of the engine so as to avoid the valve cover then straight into the intake.

There once was a video on youtube with a 2nd gen running an HE351 too. They kept calling it an HX40 though and sadly they deleted the video. They used a straight 90 elbow on theirs, not the greatest for airflow. Blues is bent up nice though with good sweeping bends, as best as could really be done in the area he had to work with.

I looked a bit... here are the pics of his install.

Man that sounds like the way to go! Why spend the money on a 60mm compressor upgrade on an old h1-c when you can score the whole edit turbo for that or less and have a nicer setup that will spool better to boot!

I think thats on my mods list now...

Gotta deal with the wastgate deal. a 60mm h1c compressor upgrade and 12cm housing is definely easier. May not spool as fast as a 351 .but......
