I have run heating oil with no problems and it will not hurt your seals in the pump, mix it 50/50 or run it straight makes no difference

I know people who have been checked, and yeah it may seem a good idea to run it in these expensive times, but the fine is a big one...

and it will take a long time to wash the dye out of your tank.

FWIW,..my fuel has been checked in eastern N.C. by N.C. DOT and all I can say is I am glad I didn't have the red "off-road" fuel in it! Another driver in line ahead of me DID have the red in his and they had him "jacked up!"

Anyway, it may not be as big a deal where you guys live.

Please elaborate as to how the low sulfur problem was solved, also how does adding some oil to the diesel help lube the injector pump? I am new to some of the news.

Sulfur serves absolutely no purpose in an internal combustion engine.
Problem is the process of removing of sulfur also strips some of the lubricity from the fuel.
The same elements that were striped from the fuel are added back at the refinery to meet a federally mandated lubricity minimum.
Far as I know no engine manufacturer has stated that more than the mandated amount of lubricity is required but some people think they still have add it back on their own.
Much of this belief is most likely bolstered by propaganda from the additive manufacturers and message boards such as this one.

I do remember how injection pumps went out after the switch to low sulfur diesel fuels for farm use & what has been stated about this problem. Thank you for your response.I will not add oils as I have been advised & I have not added any to this point.

Heating oil is not subject to ULSD regaultions. Heating Oil may continue as high sulfur where available. Most will be ULSD, but markets like the northeast part of country where heating oil is plentiful will still have 500+ ppm stuff.

This maybe true but the refiners have said they don't want to mess around with different grades of diesel fuel.
Are there even any refiners in the NE?

While at the dealership I worked at .. We pulled dirty fuel from the 03 an up truck only to put it right over into an older tr. Or we took it home to a tractor or cat. I've seen a lot of oil tried also but most folks didn't get it clean enough to run.. And winter seems to make things worse ..I think that if you run it then you need to do so on a long trip and then purge the system with clean fuel before killing the truck ..
....We worked on an old 12V set up to run on cooking oil .And it looked like the guy was really trying to do it correct .. An oil tank and his stock tank. He said that he started up on diesel fuel ran for about 5 miles or until up to normal temps .Then swapped tanks an ran the next 120 miles on the cooking oil .. As he pulled into the town he worked in he swapped back over to diesel again and drove on into work ... He said it started better on diesel fuel .
.....We had to flush all the trash out of his system... new filters...drop and steam clean his tank and a new lift pump ...You have to wonder sometimes if it's worth it..
