I just miss by 1 hour a local '97 4x4, cc, long box, 5 speed, with 86k. Asking $ 7000 did take $ 6000, I would have paid the $ 7k.

If you find one, be quick...take it !!!!

deals like below last about 10 minutes.... there's was folks lined up to buy the 96 4x4. was driving down, one hour to buy CTD, check in about 20 minutes out like buyer requested. someone else had beat me to truck and was ready to buy. I pitched a ***** and said that I wouldn't have drove down if I'd know someone was driving down.

seller said other party didn't say when they were coming. so I got first shot at truck. he was a man of his word.

so 20 minutes later... drove up and truck was in excellent condition as described. said I'll take it and put a $300 down payment. will pick truck up on Monday.

still need to detail out my 97 CTD before listing on Craigslist. don't think I'll have any trouble selling mine for $10,900. 97 CTD has been gone through end to end...4 brand Nitto 10 ply tires... I'd trust this truck to go to Alaska and back.

 

Got mine locally in Montana. No rust, bone stock, interior and body still looked like new. Paid $10K for it in 2008.

I'm looking at buying a 2nd Gen 2500 sometime this summer. How much more trouble will a 4x4 cause vs. a 4x2 2500? I've heard of a lot of front end problems with the 4x4.

Depending on your location . . . maybe I'm too dense to see where you live .. . but kslcars.com has a bunch of diesels on it (more than autotrader etc.) if you live in the intermountain west area. My old man found a babied '97 five speed on there with only 96k on it. Years ago I got my (then) bone stock 1995 from the St. George area like murphy41 suggests.

 

That's exactly who I bought my truck from. I found it in the local auto/truck trader, and the seller only had 56,000 miles on it. It was 5 years old, and was a green/silver SLT, with gauges, a tst plate, CD player, Pacbrake, Rhino liner, 2 Mag Hytec covers, almost new Michelins, and a toolbox. I took it for a test drive and decided it was mine. The seller hadn't mentioned a little switch he'd had installed on the dash--remember the "mystery switch"? It took me awhile to figure out what that was for.

 

After reading the DTR forum for some time I decided I wanted to try a 12V Dodge.Had never owned a diesel before and thought this model would be my best bet for trouble free miles.Looked for many months on Autotrader and the local paper before finding my truck.The PO was about 5 miles from me.I wanted a 5 speed but settled for the auto because it was in nice shape and appeared to have been well maintained.69.700 miles.I had to rebuild the starter solenoid about 6 months later and seal the rear window for a water leak.Also did the KDP tab,Chevy rear wheel cylinders,new Bilsteins,front brake pads,new overflow valve and added a fuel pressure gage.After 5 years of ownership, I'm a happy camper.

I have had 4X4's for many years and wouldn't have anything else.For me, the safety factor in bad weather is more than worth the price over a two wheeler.Maintenance wise you have a few more parts and a little more weight with the extra drive axle so a tad less fuel mileage.I have changed a couple u-joints on the front end of a 1978 Ramcharger and that's about it.That's not bad for 40 years of driving 4X4's.

 

Make sure you look at his feedback, first. Looks like a shady character, and his prices are high.

 

I posted that over a year ago. I would not recommend him anymore. My wife now works for Dodge and she can find about anything.

 

I got my 97 12v with 96k on it for $8,500 out of PA. truck has been running good and has 132K on it now.

 

I found my 1996 extra cab 4x4 3/4 ton on the side of the road with a for sale sign in it. I picked it up for 4500.00 bucks and it only had 42,000 miles on it. A year ago. it is a salvaged title but rebuilt. No major issuses so far. minor trans issue but was just a relay. be patient the best way to find a cheap low milage truck. and be flexable.

 

I paid a little much for mine, 16K 2 years ago. But my 97 4x4 auto had 50,000 miles, was one-owner (old retired guy, no offense anyone), completely stock, and California truck clean no rust. It's been completely worth the extra cash for the lack of problems I've had.
