What Happen??

Ok I lost 5th gear in my 97 the other night. I drove it on to the house i 4th. About 25 miles or so. I left it parked till I could haul it to a friends shop. Got the truck to the shop yesterday. Got everything out and fixed 5th gear. We left the trans in the truck and jus took the back cover off to fix it. I looked at the gear when I took it off and it was fine. No chipped teeth or odd wear. Put the new nut and washer on and put everthing back together. Put new oil in the trans and transfer case. Was gonna pull it out of the shop and try it out. Made it about 300 yards and went to shift from 3rd to 4th and the trans locked in reverse. 4 nice black marks in the road now. I think I was goin about 30 or 35 mph.(can't remember) I mash i the clutch and it still works properly. I can feel A detent still for reverse. When I put the shifter in 1st and ease out on the clutch it just boggs the motor. Same in 2nd also. When shifter is in the neutral position the trans is still in reverse and will still back up when I let out on the clutch then. Took the shifter out and as far as what u can see from the top everything looks and moves properly. I've only heard of this happening to one other truck. A bearin siezed up on the top shaft in that truck. Gonna take everything back out tomorrow night.

Do any of yall have any idea waht my trans could have wrong with it? Any help is very mush appreciated. Thank you

Wouldn't be as bad had I not bought the truck only about 4 weeks ago.
