What can cause this?

Aside from lack of oil, which I know hasn't been an issue, what would cause the rocker arm stands to excessively wear causing the rocker arms to be canted at an angle? It's always had good oil pressure and only has 100k on it.

Do you have a picture?

I can't imagine what would cause it either, but perhaps a pic would shed some light.

Think I posed the question wrong...

It has been awhile since the covers have been pulled as the truck has been sitting for about 8 years. The proper question to ask would be 'does anyone know what the side clearance between the rocker arm and stand is?' Mine seems to slide back and forth along the shaft quite a bit. And are the shafts that support the rockers are 2 separate pieces or is it one shaft thats continuous?

Stand is 1 piece, you will have to have some side to side slop between the stand and the thrust washer to allow for tolerances, here is a picture of what they look like. Also, FYI the rockers themselves are canted to the side.......

I know it should have some slop, but it just seems like a little too much... Guess I can just adjust the valves and go from there. Thanks.

FWIW, both my FSM and my Cummins B shop manual do not list a max specification on side to side, but list just about every other max wear tolerance, so it must not be huge. I would say if the thrust washers aren't paper thin or missing I wouldn't get excited.
