Question What is this?

This may be a stupid question, but while I was under the truck I saw this and had no idea what it was. Can someone help me out?

Sorry, its on the 98. The truck came out of Montana, I didn't think it would have a cat.

Emissions sticker on the rad support when you pop the hood will indicate if it is catalyst or non catalyst but as Mc mentioned, that is a cat.....all 12v CTD's manufactured after Jan. 1/94 were factory equipped with a cat.....98 and on 2nd gens w/24v replaced the cat with a resonator.

My truck has one too. (But not for long) But on the sticker on the rad suport does not say catalyst. I even have that UGLY black pipe going accross the top of my valve cover too.
