Truck running crappy..

When i rev my truck up in park and it gets to about 2250 rpms it starts to run raspry type sputterin but still goin strong and blows out whitish smoke like when you let off the gas pedal up near that rpm. Its a 95 2500 12v with 180k miles. I messed with the overflow valve last week and stretched the spring back to 1/2" i did loose one of the tiny washers in the process but don't see it making a difference. I ordered the blue point timing kit last week and should have it this week hopefully to advance my timing to 16.5* but just curious if anyone thinks it might be the timing or the over flow valve..

thanks

garrett

It should definetely make a difference loosing one of the washers those things are kinda touch and go. If you ordered the blue point timing kit did you also order the barring tool because it is kind of a PITA to do without it and the blue point doesnt come with it.

From: Weatherford TX.
mine is doing the same so i ground a 100 plate, turned the full throttle all the way in, maxed the starwheel and it helped alot. the motor sounds way better, still does it a little but i think im going to try my overflow valve first.

Mine used to do something like that, but mainly when cold when i would take off it would spit and sputter and cut out about 1900 2200 R.P.M's it was my timing i guess it had slipped when i checked it, it was at 10.5*

i have a 100 plate in the truck now and the plate is slid all the way forward as well as the star wheel being turned all the way. My brother has the barring tool so yes i will have it to go with the timing tools. It makes turning the motor off a breeze i didnt even think i was turning it at first the other day when i used the tool. Anyways i figured it might have something to do with this timing I'll give it a shot and see, i guess ill just replace that overflow valve then, does it come with a new spring and new washers? Also do you guys remove the banjo assembly its on or just undo the nut then pull the spring out? Its really tight in there and was a pita to get it back in reason the washer got dropped. We did it w/o taking the banjo off..

You replace the entire bolt. On some of the new ones you can no longer take the spring out.
On many rigs you have to grind or file the notch deeper where the OF hits the intake in order to remove it. Don't try bending the steel return line to get it out, you will have a very hard time getting it to line up again.
