Transmission high pres. line

I've got a 95 dodge ram ctd 4wd the high press. I've got a bad line its the one that the temp. sending unit bung is on. I went to the dealer to price it out and they're telling me somethings changed and there is a "newer version" of the line out which in turn requires you to replace the fittings on the end. Anyways the total was like $258.xx which is insane for that small line. Im going to take it to my local hydrolic and custom line shop and see if they cant fix the line for me where the end fitting rusted off and try and save money. I was curious if anyones ever fixed this line with something other than the dealer line. Its probly 3/8" od line and the bung for the temp. is just brazed on.

Thanks,

Garrett

the dealers price is highway robbery. they have changed the parts around.

what I did was bought the steel portion of the lines from the dealer and eliminated those crazy quick connects where they join the rubber sections up by the cooler. I just cut the quick connects off and used a good quality hose clamps. saved about $200.00 on those 2 sections of rubber lines that connect to the cooler.

my total bill from the dealer for all the lines was about $200.00

The fittings that were the most expensive are the ones that thread into the tranny. they are strait pipe thread (not tapered pipe thread).

I was going to use hydralic hose untill a friend I know who works at a tranny shop said that Dodge may have designed the system with long lenghts of steel hose to help cool the fluid.

So your saying you bought JUST THE LINE? My truck doesnt have quick connects on this line, its just regular threaded ends. The fitting that goes into the tranny isn't messed up. The parts lady said there were 4 fittings i needed and all were required due to the change in the part. What i dont get is the line is flared and the ends are already on the line so they are part of the line as they can't be removed. Which only leaves the fitting that goes into the trans. on the drivers side. And that fitting is in good condition. Im bringing my parts w/ me and im not paying for stuff i dont need they can keep it lol. Besides that it almost sounds like your talking about a different line though seeing as this line has no quick connects and this line connects to a rubber section of line on the pass side but this line is 100% metal no rubber.

thanks,
garrett

While you're at it replace all the lines that have plastic couplers. They are known to fail and when you lose all your fluid the tranny is trashed. Some people use hydraulic hose.
Here's a little more info http://dodgeram.org/tech/transmissio..._couplings.htm

I dont have any plastic fittings, heres some pictures of the removed line. The nut style end broke off as it was the leaking source. And i cut the other end of the line by the temp. bung since the fitting nut was impossible to remove. I think the parts lady thinks i had plastic fittings which is why she told me i needed all these extra parts. those parts are just layed out in the pictures and aren't how they actually look when mounted. The sensor side is on the drivers side of the truck and the NUT end is on the pass side and it connects to a rubber hydralic looking hose approx 12" long
