transfer case question

1994 CTD, 5 speed, 4WD

Is there a transfer case vent hose that runs from the transfer case to the top of the bell housing along the passenger side of the transfer case and transmission?

Yes, it comes out under the stock airbox and has been known to occasionally puke oil on some rigs if you get on the right tilt under the right conditions. Most people will experience at least once and wonder where the heck all the oil came from.

Thanks guys, I spotted it while the truck was on the rack and as you may have seen from earlier post I have been thinking it was some type of vacuum that was disconnected.

Is there supposed to be a vent cap or check valve on the end of it? Mine is completely open.

My 4x4 shift lever is rattling, wasn't able to find a way to tighten it

any suggestion other than stuffing a glove in the boot?

I came out today to a rubber line hanging from under my rig. Ran from a short metal line on the top driver side of the transfer and was hanging loose. Loose end had a 4 inch metal line clamped in with a metal mounting tab. Where does the loose end go? It appears the bolt holding the tab down came loose... Does it vent to the outside?

It probably goes to the 4wd actuator on the passenger front axle.
If your 4wd doesn't engage it's the one.

Thanks, Bill!

Now, if the loose end has the metal line still inserted, did it break off or just work it's way out of a fitting?

Hard to tell without actually seeing it. The line does hang rather low though and could have possibly snagged on something.

I guess I have got to find the insertion point and see if there's a broken fitting there... ugh... Thanks Bill.
