Tranny/clutch trouble
Tranny/clutch trouble
I'm having trouble with my 98 12v. Its been acting strange lately. Its hard to get in gear. With the truck idling and clutch fully depressed, if I try to push it into gear it will start rolling forward. If I push the clutch real hard I can sometimes get it into gear. Then in gear with the clutch fully depressed, It will start lurching/jumping forward. Clutch releases normal about half way up its travel. Its been doing this on and off for the last couple months. Any idea's???? Clutch master cylinder is full. I'll double check tranny level in the morn, but it was good last check. Thanks for any input..... Layne
since you said the clutch engages part way up on travel, and the master is full of fluid, most likely the pilot bearing is starting to seize to the input shaft. The only way to fix that is to pull the trans and clutch. The input shaft for the trans will most likely be bad too, so plan on ordering up one of those for the job.
That makes sense. I don't like that thought but it makes sense! Only thing I wonder about that is should'nt it be making some noise if thats the case?? Their isn't any out of the ordinary noise at all. Any other possibility's??? Thanks for the reply.
I've seen that happen before too. When the roller needles relax and let loose of the shaft, it will turn free, but when the rollers jam up and bunch up, it will either drag on the shaft or seize right up. Either event, the bearing will take out the trans input shaft. It aint cheap. If it does seize up to the point of not being able to shift, don't jam it in gear or put it in gear and start it up with the clutch released. You could do extra damage. Best way is to get the parts and fix it right.
