Timing Pin Question

The main story line is here, but today's question is about the timing pin. Just how much movement should the pin be capable of? I ask because as I was trying to check the timing, I can not get the pin to push in at all. However, on a whim, I pulled on the pin, and it will come out probably a 1/4" or slightly more. This all strikes me as a fairly bad situation. Now, I rotated the engine better than once around on the serpentine belt, which as I look at it, should put me a couple times around on the engine can I possibly need to go around more?

Sounds like somebody had the pin in and turned the engine over. That breaks off the end of the pin rendering it useless. The only other way I know of to find TDC is to pull the timing pin on the side of the pump to see when you are getting close to TDC. Then you will need to use the 'drop valve' method to find it. Good Luck

One of my 93`s I could pull the pin out easily but not in far enough easily to engage the notch. Theres just a "O" ring holding it in If I remember right. If you can pull it out it should be tapered on the end, if not maybe someone ran it with it engaged and did a number on the end. Might try a light tap inwards to see if it will free up.
