throttle/shifting problem (very strange)

Hello, I have a strange problem and am out of my league. Off and on when I drive, my thorttle will be very stiff and the truck will not shift unless I stab throttle and go to 2900 rpm, then it will slam into 2nd. Then it will stay in 2nd until I do the same thing. Then it will shift immediately into 4th and throttle will go back to being easy to push. Also if I start driving and notice the problem I will shift into nuetrel and turn truck off and right back on. I hit the throttle and it is back to normal. At first this was a once a week occurance, over the course of a couple months it is almost every time I drive. If you guys have any ideas at all it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Assuming you have a 12v CTD, there was a recall to replace the throttle linkage. Do you have the new linkage?

Sorry, I don't have anything in my sig. As far as the linkage goes I don't know. But if it was just linkage why would the problem go away as soon as I turn the truck off and then turn it back on. It seems to me it has something to do with electrical but I don't all the different electrical components of the thorttle/transmission to make even an educated guess.

I bought my truck used and the linkage recall was installed, so I never experienced a problem. From what I have read, the new linkage might solve your problem, anyway that's a good place to start. Your dealer can confirm.

I would also inspect the transmission wiring harness for loose wires.

Could be the crank sensor, tps,or governor solenoid or transducer. My truck would not go into od,then you would shut the truck down and it would be ok.It was the governor solenoid. One other thing, make sure you are not getting any 3rd gear starts

Something else to look at might be the kickdown cable going to the tranny.... it almost sounds like it might be sticking sometimes. I've seen a couple where the end would fray causing the cable to stick in it's housing.
