Thin copper washers for 215 injectors

I just picked up my rebuilt 215 hp injectors from the local Bosch shop. They put on thick copper washers. When I told him that there were thin (20 thousands or so) washers on them when I pulled them he said that was wrong. A few past posts indicated that the thin ones are commonly found on the 215 injectors but no absolute yes's. I called Cummins with my motor number and the parts guy can give me the washer part number but has no information in his data base as to size. Pulling one to look at was not an option. I have the part number at work if someone has a way to use it to figure out the correct thickness I need.

Can any other 215 hp owner confirm the washer thickness?

Thanks

washers

I will measure the ones the Bosch shop put on but I think that they were even thicker then 60 thousand-- they almost look 1/8".

.040" were stock on 215s.
This was verified by Cummins and Bosch for my 97 5spd.

Right, wrong or indifferent I use the thinnest ones on my 215 injectors. I had the "normal" medium thick stock ones on, took them out, and tried the thinnest ones. I did not really see any difference between the two so I left them in.

Well 40 thousands is thinner then the ones the Bosch shop put on mine. Good thing I bought an install kit so I have a choice of thin, medium, and thick.

.20 is the thinnest, .040 medium, .060 thickest.

Alot of us run the thinnest washers. The benefits are that you can increase the timing and the injector will spray into the bowl more.
Another benefit is idle haze will be reduced.

BUT, like infidel says you should run the washers the manufacturer recommends.

I've pulled alot of 12v injectors, and the 215's have always had the thin .020 washers.

This was just talked about on comp. diesel and everyone says 215s had the .040" washers stock.
You can call Cummins or Bosch, give them your Pump number and you will see .040" washers were stock.
I just went through this last year. I pulled my injectors to get tested, and when I got them back, they had a thicker washer on them. I called Cummins and gave them my engine# and they said .040" washers were the correct ones. I them called Bosch and gave them my pump number and they confirmed it.

Maybe they were changed out previously?

There is only one rule on washer thickness, use what the injector manufacturer recommends.
Too thin and the spray pattern will be larger possibly hitting the cylinder walls, too thick and the pattern will be smaller possibly pooling up on top of the piston.

Dieselman,
Unlike many folks, I don't deal with just my truck (which BTW was untouched when I go it)...I do this almost everyday.
The 160,175,180's I've remove have the .060 washers, but every 215 I've done has had the .020 washers.

But it's odd people mention .040 washers. My local Bosch wharehouse supplies me with sealed bags of washer kits, and those kits contain .020, .060, and .090 washers in them, no .040's.

I always thought and heard it was .20,.40,.60, but then again Im not always paying attention.
I have a couple of injector instal kits. Im going to have to mic them.
Not saying I dont believe you, just need to see for myself.
