Is there a difference?

I am changing out my 93 VE engine for a 95 and have some questions, when running it sounds just like my 93 but I listened to a 96 and it sounds different, Is there a difference in the years from 94 to 98? the 96 sounded smoother and was not as loud. Also the 95 has a slight miss if you floor it up to the govener and the 96 popped and banged Bad up to the govener, What would cause that? A bad injector or is it a pump problem? Or?

By the way the 95 is a 170hp and the 96 is a 175hp. The 95 has 150,000 and the 96 has 199,000 miles.

Thank you,

Timming and valves that need to be set will cause them to rattle differently, the miss also. Nasty fuel filters, pre screens rotted hoses letting air in will cause similiar. Go over everything on the newer engine you are installing before you put it in to make it easy on yourself, ie'; fuel filte, pre screen, kdp, fuel hoses, starter contacts etc etc. Goodluck,,Rick

Ya I am planning on doing alot to it before it goes in. especialy the kdp. Just seems funny that I hear a big difference in the 96 and newer especially the trucks with the auto transmissions.

The reason that there is a differance between the 94-95 pumps and the 96-98.4 pumps is that the earlier years only made 160HP the later years made 180HP on automatics. And timing is set differently.

Well the 95 was a 5 speed and the 96 an auto, 5 hp difference acording to the tags. I notice when hearing trucks on the street the Auto trucks just have a smoother quieter sound to them and thats what I want. So your saying the Auto trucks have a different pump? or 96 and 97 trucks in general.
